PizzaStorm, Southside Shopping Centre, Wandsworth High Street, London SW18 4TF pizzastorm.pizza
Sometimes a location becomes synonymous with innovation; Paris with art in the 1920s, New York for jazz in the 1940s…and now deep in the heart of South London….Wandsworth for cinema and pizza. Cineworld, the UK’s leading cinema operator, has introduced London’s first 4DX equipped cinema at Cineworld Wandsworth; simultaneously in the same shopping mall an exciting new concept in pizza restaurants has launched. PizzaStorm offers superfast ‘craft your own’ pizzas. If things couldn’t get more exciting I’ve been invited to review both and am taking my 14 year old son to see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in the new format followed by a pizza-building bonding session. We are both stupidly excited…4DX was introduced from South Korea in 2015 and boasts high-tech motion seats and special effects such as wind, fog, lightning, bubbles, water, and smells and is available in both 2D and 3D formats. It shouldn’t be tried if you have a dodgy heart or a bad back as you do you get thrown about but for a thrillingly immersive cinema experience there is nothing like it. Bullets whistle past, lightning crackles, you feel the punches in your sides, rain (optional) literally pours down on you and as for the smellovision…! My son can’t imagine seeing the movie any other way now.
4DX is exclusive to Cineworld in the UK and the auditorium houses 148 specially designed seats, plus a curved screen measuring 14.20m by 6.15m – bigger than a double decker bus. The seats are comfortable and there is plenty of room for the all-essential drinks and snacks. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a terrific reworking of familiar Star Wars themes with a standout performance from Felicity Jones and a particularly poignant ending. By the end we felt ready for…pizza.
The first of its kind in the area, PizzaStorm is an exciting new concept, offering fast, fresh, and most importantly custom-made 11 inch stone-baked pizzas in super-quick time using a 900 degree oven. The restaurant offers over 50 unlimited toppings to choose from, which equates to over a million different combinations which is almost too much choice! You can craft your own or select from one of the 6 Hall of Flames signature pizzas, which include recipes such as “This Little Piggy Had BBQ”, “The Mexicana”, and the “Blazin’ Tornado”.
If you choose to craft your own you’ll be guided along the PizzaStorm counter where you can pick your base sauce, then your cheese, and on to your choice of veg and meat toppings. Finally adding your finishing touches from a range of original PizzaStorm sauces all for less than £9!
Sides on offer include guacamole, coleslaw and garlic bread. And, if you still have a sweet tooth to satisfy after all that pizza, there is the temptation of unlimited ice cream with various toppings and sauces, craft beers from Meantime Brewery, ciders and wines, as well as refill sodas and fruit flavoured waters.
