Skate in the City Broadgate
Broadgate Ice Rink, Exchange Square, Broadgate EC2A 2BQ
I don’t think I’ve been ice-skating for over 40 years but when I got the chance to channel my inner John Curry at the launch event for the Broadgate Ice Rink, no-one was going to stop me. If you haven’t ever been skating you should just go and do it. If you don’t want to give it a try stop being a wuss and go and do it. If you’re really good, stop showing off already…Despite being the worst skater on the rink and recipient of a resounding nul points from the judges lurking in my subconscious, I enjoyed it almost too much. The staff at the rink were very helpful and very happy to help out an ageing novice. And for an additional fiver kids can hire one of those stability penguins to help them get around.
After an hour spent on the ice we went to the brand new rink-side pop-up bar and smokehouse, The Tasting Room, to try out samples from the winter menu. The bar’s heated outdoor terrace has great views of the City and is perfect for a post-skate chow down.
From ‘cuts n butts’ smoked on site, to London’s finest gourmet doughnuts and freshly prepared salads and sandwiches, combined with a selection of craft beers, fresh cocktails and winter warmers, you will be well fed and watered.
