The Hedonist

Three to see and hear

December 4, 2011 by Adrian Leave a Comment

Judith Owen

Tuesday December 6th         Doors 7p.m.   Show 8.30p.m.      £15
The Pheasantry, 152-154 King’s Rd, London, SW3 4UT

The Hedonist has fond memories of watching Judith Owen play her plaintive and beautifully written love songs at Ronnie Scott’s club some twenty years ago, but then the mercurially talented songstress met and married Harry Shearer of The Simpsons and Spinal Tap fame and relocated to Los Angeles which is still her base. In recent months Judith has been touring with Richard Thompson and separately with Ruby Wax but this outing is a rare opportunity to see her in her own show with Shearer and fellow L.A. expat Julia Fordham guesting.

Mike Sanchez

Thursday December 8th         7:00 PM – 1:00 AM         FREE ENTRY
The Blues Kitchen, 111 Camden High St, London, NW1 7JN

Boogie-woogie and rhythm and blues piano maestro Mike Sanchez fronted ex-Rolling Stones member Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings for four years which brought him into the public eye. Influenced by Jerry Lee Lewis, Pete Johnson and Fats Domino his powerhouse playing and vocals always guarantee a good time and for lovers of Rock and Roll and R&B there is no more compelling performer on the UK circuit.

Kai Hoffmann and her Quartet

Wednesday December 14th         7:30 PM     Music Charge of between £8 and £12 per person
606 Club, 90 Lots Rd, London, SW10 0QD

With her retro frocks, a sharp line in banter and above all a powerful and hard swinging vocal technique, it’s no wonder that Ian Shaw has dubbed American jazz singer Kai Hoffman ‘The Queen of Swing’. She’s been touring with all round hep cat Ray Gelato in the show “Hey Boy! Hey Girl!”  celebrating the magic of the 1950s boy girl duets but at the 606 will be showcasing the latin and jazz standards that she delivers so flawlessly.
